- Project Management Plans. This slide deck introduces the planning concept of Project Management. There are so many questions to be answered before one begins to embark on a project. These questions are naturally raised to bring clarity and translate goals and objectives into actionable plans.
- Benefits of Planning. The benefits of planning are many. Planning is an exercise that requires thinking systematically and ahead of time. It serves as a guide for all your activities. It works out timeline and costs required to complete an activity. It helps to get clarity about resources required. It ensures you are doing the right things. It helps hire the right people and manage expectations. Every plan changes in a real-time project environment however it helps one understand the effects of change that are taking place as the plan serves as a standard.
- What to consider in your plan. While planning you must ask what is your project going to deliver? You must consider Scope (Project Charter template, Project scope statement template), Definition, Change control, and Value. This section further explains useful concepts that are the fundamentals of any project planning activity. Concepts discussed are WBS, OBS, Responsibility Assignment tools, Project organizations and project team structures.
- The WBS. WBS stands for work break down structure. It is the most essential concept of project planning. WBS must focus on deliverables and not on processes. It must always be aligned to value and not to process stages. This section is rich with plenty of structured charts, diagrams, templates that are used within the project planning process methodically. They help you build clarity about the project organization.
- Tools RASCI and RAM. While planning one needs to consider how responsibility within the project must be assigned. This is accomplished with the right tools. The Tools RASCI and RAM are discussed.
- Project Team Structure. In Project planning the focus must be on how resources must be effectively and efficiently utilized within the time, scope and cost constraints. For this the people resource that makes up the team structure must be properly planned. Roles must be assigned to teams along with defined responsibility covering processes and multiple scenarios. This can only be achieved when the WBS has been properly accomplished.
- Guidelines. This section give s various overview of the documents and plans used in Projects. The project plan must cover Scope, Resource plan, Schedule, and the budget. Planning must also set the criteria of measuring success of the plan. Thus monitoring and controlling the project must be considered at the planning stage itself as a good practice.
