- Global IT Project Management. Global projects by default are very complex to manage due to their multi-dimension aspects of language, cultures, work practices and processes, rules and regulations and even country-wise regional holidays. This week of PM covers important concepts that assist in the successful management of Global IT Project Management.
- Project Partnering. Learn about the concept of Project partnering and how it assists in globally managing IT projects. The advantages and disadvantages of this concept are discussed. The challenges faced by each of the partners are demonstrated through the potential areas of conflict in the process of goal alignment.
- Key Practices in Partnerships. This section draws a distinction between traditional practices of partnerships and partnering relationship practices. It discusses in several points the main differences that make partnering relationships a better practice of managing global projects.
- Types of Contracts. There are two types of contracts commonly used within global projects by contractors. These are Fixed Price (lumpsum) and Cost Plus (time and material). Both are briefly explained.
- Contract Changes. In real time scenarios it’s very likely that there are going to be changes in project requirements that result in scope change. A change in scope demands a change in contract. These are factored in through the various control systems that are to be defined as part of the project change control systems.
- International Projects. There are four types of International Projects namely; domestic, overseas, foreign and global. The classification is best understood by keeping the focus on where the clients are based out of.
- International Assignments. This section discusses the concept of International assignments. The positive and negatives of international assignments are highlighted. The nature of international assignments is can be best understood by learning about the factors that impact its nature. These factors are Environmental Factors, Cross Cultural Factors, Cross-Cultural Orientations, Cultural Dimensions Framework, Working in Different Cultures and Selection and Training. Learn about the 6 environmental factors of economic, legal/political, security, infrastructure, culture, and geography. Each of the above factors is explained to bring further clarity and sensitivity to these factors that greatly impact the successful of your global projects.
- Successful Partnering. This section looks at what successful partnering is all about. What must be considered while selecting partners and how partner relationships must be developed? After finding good partners sustaining relationships becomes important. This section gives 3 tips to develop and sustain project partnerships. Further after each project milestone is met it is important to stop and celebrate success. This reinforces positive behavior which helps manage the people side of projects. Another important concept discussed here in managing successful partnerships is dealing with partnering failures.
