- Five Tasks of Strategic Planning. Five Tasks of Strategic Planning. This section begins with defining the strategic planning process. As a manager you must first understand what strategic planning means on an organizational level. Once strategic planning has been defined this section breaks down Strategic Planning into five Tasks. These Five Tasks of Strategic Planning are Forming A Strategic Vision, Setting Objectives, Crafting A Strategy to achieve the desired outcomes, Implementing and Executing the chosen strategy, and Evaluating Performance, Monitoring new developments, and Initiating corrective adjustments.
- Strategy Hierarchy. This section further explains the strategy hierarchy for a single business company- how strategy is arranged from Business level to function level to process level.
- Factors Shaping the Choice of Strategy. This section covers what influences strategy. There are external factors and internal factors. Thus a strategic analysis must be made keeping in mind the industry and competition and the internal situation and capabilities of your own company. Strategic analysis leads to strategic choices.
- Three Tests of Best Strategy. What are good strategies like? This section describes the 3 tests of Best strategy. The Goodness of Fit Test, the Competitive Advantage Test, and the Performance Test.
- Analyzing Industry Environment and Crafting Competitive Strategy. To make the right choices, a manager has to go consider the external factors – the industry environment in which his business functions. This sections explains in great details how to use Porter’s Five Forces Model and the Five Generic Competitive Strategies available as a course of action. It explains how 3 generic strategies can be used alongwith the 5 Industry forces.
- Strategy Implementation and Execution. This section focuses on how strategies are implemented and how they are executed at each level of the organization hierarchy. Strategy implementation is dependent on 2 factors. The HR & Organization Development Factor and the System factor. The HR & organization development factor consists of 4 pillar that help execute a strategy, they are; building a capable organization, designing strategy-supportive reward system for people performance, creating a strategy-supportive corporate culture, and Strategic Leadership.
