    3. What is Marketing ? Every product or service offers a unique value. This value needs to be communicated and delivered to potential consumers who will benefit from the product or service. Due to increased competition and the myriad of options available, a consumer may not be able to discriminate the actual value he or she desires from a product or service. Thus this value needs to be communicated separately. Marketing can therefore be considered as the process that begins with planning of the product, covers the exchange of the product, and ends with the final satisfaction of consumer needs and wants w.r.t the product or service value.

The elements of the mix are – Price, Promotion, Product, Place, People, Process, Physicals, Personalization, Peer to Peer, Participation, and Predictive models.
    5. Evolution Of Marketing. Industrial revolution brought finished goods in the market at an accelerated pace. The advertising industry helped create demand that outpaced supply. Slowly with better technology production exceeded supply. Thus a shift began to take place. The orientation shifted from merely producing products to focusing on the needs of what customers want. This resulted in the birth of the Marketing Concept. See the slide for the definition of Marketing.
    6. Implementing Marketing. Businesses started adapting to a more marketing or sales driven approach. The Marketing concept involves building the product or services by involving the final consumer’s needs and wants in the process and thus going back to the drawing board and creating the new product or service. This is how marketing is implemented.
