- Understanding Corporate Performance Management. Business Organizations are all about profits and profits are achieved through goals and objectives. Goals and objectives are achieved through setting and implementing strategy. Thus Strategy plays an important part in driving performance. This section introduces the corporate Performance Management Framework which includes Vision, Mission, Strategy, Strategy Maps, Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and company strategy. It states the components of corporate performance management and shows the role strategy plays in the corporate performance management cycle.
- Managing Corporate Performance with the Balanced Scorecard. This section explains the meaning of the Balanced Scorecard and highlights how it helps to manage performance by balancing financial and non-financial measures, balancing short and long-term measures and balancing performance drivers and their outcomes- all leading to strategic focus and complete organizational alignment (with its strategy). This section also highlights the Four Perspectives in Balanced Scorecard.
- Strategy and Balanced Scorecard. This section introduces the Strategy Map Framework and the Strategy Map Template. Strategy maps are visual diagrams used as communication tools to show how value is created for the organization by following a logical, step-by-step connection between the strategic objectives. Each of the 4 perspectives have their Strategic objectives. The strategy map shows the connection between all the strategic objectives together, depicting cause and effect relationships thus showing clear organizational alignment. The section further shows each of the Four Balanced Scorecard (BSC) Perspectives alongwith their respective Strategic objectives. The four BSC perspectives discussed here are - Financial Perspective, Customer Perspective, Internal Business Process Perspective, Organizational Learning and Growth Perspective.
- Identifying Key Performance Indicators (KPI's). While setting strategic objectives is one side the other side is their measurement. How does an organization know they have succeeded? Organizations set key performance indicators for measuring if they have had success with strategic objectives. This section introduces the concept of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) alongwith the guidelines for formulation of KPI’s. Further each of the KPI Family Dimensions are explained. The KPI dimensions explained here are productivity, quality, profitability, timeliness, process efficiency, resource utilization, cost savings, growth. KPI Category Dimensions are explained briefly.
- Strategy Map for Corporate Functions. This section explores how Strategy Maps can be used to integrate the corporate function and various divisions and departments. The Division Scorecard is derived from the corporate scorecard. Strategy maps for various divisions are presented including HR Strategy Map Template, IT Strategy Map Template, Finance Strategy Map Template, and Marketing Strategy Map Template.
