    2. Managing Project Teams. This slide deck goes into the Team concept. Projects are made up of teams and it is what teams do together as a cohesive unit is what drives performance. Through the various concepts discussed, this slide deck will develop and enhance your project management skills thereby effectively showing you how to manage teams.
    3. What is a Team? This section begins with all the essential definitions related to the concept of teams. It begins with defining Team, Team work, and Team building. It further explains the two characteristics that make an effective Team. One of the key characteristics is of Project team is Team Size as it directly impacts performance. The ideal team size is discussed along with the problems one encounters when this size changes within the Project Team. The section further goes into common characteristics of high performance teams. Each of these 8 characteristics are visually depicted.
    4. Why Join Teams ? There are 6 reasons why people join teams. They are security, status, self-esteem, affiliation, power and goal achievement.
    5. Team Development. This section discusses useful concepts related to team and team development. In 1960, Tuckman published the famous 5 Stage model of Team Development. The stages consisting of Forming, Storming, Norming, Peforming, and Adjourning. For a project manager this is essential to know as the team would need him in the initial stages. Norming is the key stage where teams begin contributing to productivity. The section continues with Gersick's Punctuated Equilibrium Model of Group Development. MBTI for Teams is also discussed.
    6. Keys to Managing People. This section goes in detail into 3 important areas that allow a project manager to manage people. These three areas are Motivation, Influence and Power, and Effectiveness. The following models are discussed under motivation theory - Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Herzberg’s Two Factor Theory, McClelland’s Acquired-Needs Theory and McGregor’s X and Y. HJ Thamhain and DL Wilemon 9 Influence Bases for Project Managers and Stephen Covey's 7 Habits are covered as well.
    7. Managing Project Teams. A project manager must continuously lead and assess his team’s performance and decide accordingly about changes to be made in the team. The project manager must use tools and techniques that assist in managing the team. This section discusses various ways of developing the team and also the conditions favorable for team development. It covers how to conduct effective meetings, ideas to recruiting project members, establishing a team identity, rejuvenation the team and touches upon the challenges of managing virtual teams.
    8. Project Team Conflict. Conflicts are natural and therefore project manager must encourage functional conflicts and manage dysfunctional conflict.
