    2. What is Public Speaking ? Public Speaking is the process of an individual directly speaking to a live assembled audience in an organized manner. The formal setup involves an individual person standing in front of a seated audience consisting of a group of individuals in awareness of the topic to-be discussed at hand. The speech given is often structured and presented in a deliberate manner to inform the audience, to entertain the audience and to persuade the audience to the presenter’s way of thinking about the subject matter. The speech can structured into 5 basic elements of “who, what, whom, medium and effect”.
    3. Public Speaking as a Tool. Seen as tool, within a given context, public speaking can be used for informing people about important issues, motivating people to take action, influencing people to consider a certain perspective, etc.
    4. Fear of Public Speaking. From time to time surveys have showed that public speaking is the number fear most people have. Glossophobia or speech anxiety is term given to the fear of public speaking. What leads to the fear are largely three things; Being in Spotlight, Unpreparedness or lack of confidence of the subject matter, and Inexperience of the situation.
    5. Overcoming Fear of Public Speaking. There are three definite areas that you can work upon to get rid of the fear of public speaking and communicating effectively. They are Preparation, Practice and Presence.
    6. Overcoming Fear of Public Speaking and Communicating Effectively By Preparation. This involves proper preparation achieved by thorough research on the topic to be presented, the format – the structure and flow of the material, and the self-notes prepared to remind you of how you wish to cover them in your speech.
    7. Overcoming Fear of Public Speaking and Communicating Effectively By Practice. This involves repeating what you want to get right keeping in mind the subject material, notes, and ideas. Revise them as much as you can at various places so its feel very natural and the notes can be used for reference only. Practice is essential to get your speech timing right. Doing things before hand allows you to master your speech material and know precisely where to stop and where to extend.
    8. Overcoming Fear of Public Speaking and Communicating Effectively By Presence. This involves the actual delivery of the speech and how you feel about presenting it in entirety. This is where the rubber meets the road. In your practice sessions check yourself on how you project your image to the audience. Do you appear confident or nervous? The audience will look at your nonverbal and verbal behavior and take that as cue about the effectiveness of your entire speech and you. Thus when you practice delivery, you work at your body language, plan the gestures, modulate to the tone, plan the eye contact and exhibit a positive energy and attitude.
    9. Preparation Sample Speech Outline. A standard speech outline can be prepared with three elements in mind – your introduction to the speech, the body of your speech, and the conclusion to your speech.
