    2. Framework for Building Competency-based HR Management System. This section begins with introducing the whole HR management framework based on competency. The systems diagram shows an overview of how Competency based HR strategy fits in with the Business Strategy. The diagram shows where a competency framework fits in within the landscape of a business covering business strategy, HR functions, and business results that follow from implementing a competency based people strategy. Thus through the competency framework individual performance can be linked to the business results.
    3. Definition of Competency and Types. Having placed the importance of competency framework it is first necessary to understand what competencies are. Here competency is described as a combination of skills, job attitude, and knowledge that is reflected in observable and measurable job behavior that can be evaluated. The difference and link between job description and competency is explained. Further the two types of competencies (managerial competency and functional competency) are explained.
    4. Competency Identification Process. This section shows the overview process of competency identification. With two examples, it shows how after competencies are identified for the job role, how each competency is described with definition and its key behaviors. The section further lists the benefits of using competency model for managers as well as for employees.
    5. Key Characteristics of Successful Competency implementation. There are 5 key characteristics of successful implementation of competency model in an organization setup that are discussed here.
    6. Competency-based Interview Method. This section explores the use of competency framework for Interviews. It discusses two types of interviews – conventional and competency based interviews. Their meaning, function, usefulness and drawbacks are discussed. Further the Competency-based Interview approaches is introduced which called the - S.T.A.R Technique. The abbreviation S.T.A.R stands for (S) Situation, (T) Task, (A) Action, (R) Results. A Sample demonstration of competency-based interview is also included that shows how this is put to use.
    7. Competency-based Career Planning. This section explores the use of competency framework for Career planning. The section explores basics like what is organizational employee career planning system and what are career paths. It shows how career paths are defined and how competencies support the process of employee career planning as well as the organization position based on the job family.
    8. Competency-based Training & Development. This section explores the use of competency framework for Training and development in organizations. It shows how competency assessment brings out the competency gap between current level of competency and required level of competency in the employee this highlighting the need for the training program. This is possible as each position is mapped to a competency profile that shows the necessary level of the competency. This also allows for a training matrix to be compiled that shows stage wise development for each position in the entire organization.
    9. Competency-based Performance Management. This section explores how competency framework applies in performance management. It also discusses assessing competency through Assessment Centers. Assessment center test types are also described namely; in-basket exercise, role simulation, presentation, fact-finding exercise, and group discussion.
